A bit about Vasanthi ...

Who doesn't know Vasanthi?

Vasanthi Hariprakash hosts the Breakfast show every morning 7 to 11 on Radio City 91.1 FM and is nicknamed `Sunshine Girl’ for energizing Bangalore city every morning. (Now she is doing evening shows & we need to find a new name for her!) Here is very short list of Vasanthi's many achievements:

  • Represented India as `Global Young Leader’ at the prestigious Salzburg Summit in Austria in 2007.
  • Given the Radio Excellence Award & declared `India’s Best English RJ’ by the India Radio Forum in 2007.
  • The first Indian radio DJ to be interviewed live by BBC Birmingham, UK in August 2007
  • She has also been featured for her achievements in a recent edition of former President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam’s e-newspaper `Billion Beats’.
  • Some of her well-known guests on her show: Mr Narayana Murthy , Rajdeep Sardesai, Asha Bhonsle, A R Rahman and many others. (Should ask her who has not been on her show?!?!)
  • Mr Narayana Murthy said of her: “Vasanthi has the power to mould opinion of over 2 million listeners through her radio show. Her unique style of anchoring has helped her connect one-to-one with the cosmopolitan crowd of Bangalore and has lent dignity to the show”.
  • Also hosts the popular weekend show in Kannada `Bengalooru Talkies’. Bangalore tunes in every Saturday morning to catch a word with this Savimaathina Rani! Saahasa simha Dr. Vishnuvardhan has personally endorsed her show many a time, and made a personal appearance to give away the Best RJ award.
  • Co-ordinator of the Network of Women in Media, India, a group of media women from print, electronic and broadcast media.
  • Earlier a chief sub-editor with the Indian Express handling late city editions.
  • Speaks 6 languages, loves music – Carnatic, soft rock, Indian film music - and counts John Denver and MS Subbulakshmi as her all-time favourites.
  • This Bangalorean loves theatre and is a travel freak, having travelled through 16 Indian States, 9 countries and planning more!
